Denmark and the
Crusading Movement
Aim of
project
It is the aim of this project to investigate more closely and present to an international public:
- Danish participation in crusading in the Baltic, to the Middle East, and elsewhere.
- The impact of the crusading movement on Danish institutions such as military organization, establishing of royal monarchy, and of social, economic, financial, and diplomatic relations to other European powers.
- The closer integration of Denmark and the Baltic region into Wester Europe.
The period covered range from the late eleventh century till the Danish Reformation in 1536.
It is also the hope to further crusading studies in Denmark and Scandinavia by creating a forum for discussion for all initerested in the topic.
