The Department of English at the University of Southern Denmark offers a wide variety of courses for students working towards a B.A and Cand.Mag. (Masters) in English. The Department draws on the expertise of three of the main research institutes in the Humanities Faculty: Language and Communication; Literature, Culture, and Media Studies; History and Western Civilization. Our full time teaching staff includes a diverse range of individuals with teaching and research experience in all corners of the globe, encompassing Great Britain, Ireland, the United States, Europe, South Africa, South America, Australia and the Far East. And with the opening of our new department at the Kolding Campus, we are now moving into a major phase of expansion. In the past year alone we have acquired the teaching services of ten new scholars at the level of Associate Professor (Lektor) Assistant Professor (Adjunkt) and Ph.D students. A Danish degree in English was once considered synonymous with a career as a gymnasium (senior high school) teacher. This is no longer the case. Although a considerable number of our graduates are still drawn to a teaching career, a substantial range of alternative opportunities has opened up in more recent times. The ever-growing influence of English as a global language has stimulated demand for talented English graduates in the Danish business community, media, and the public sector, not to mention the growing opportunities abroad. The range of knowledge and skills acquired in working towards a University degree in English means that the only limit on its potential uses is your own imagination and resourcefulness.
